Your university registrar or examinations office
A formal academic record from each tertiary institution you attended, showing every course taken, the credit value, the grade, and your cumulative GPA. Issued by the university registrar or examinations office.
For graduate applications, your university transcript is THE primary academic credential — replacing the high-school transcript that mattered at the undergrad stage. Admissions committees scrutinise course rigor, grade trends, and any major-related performance.
Visit your university's registrar / examinations office in person. Some Ghanaian, Nigerian, and Kenyan universities now offer online transcript ordering.
Submit a formal request — most universities have a transcript request form.
Pay the issuing fee (varies; typically GHS 100-300 in Ghana, ₦5,000-15,000 in Nigeria, KSh 1,000-3,000 in Kenya per copy).
Wait 2-6 weeks. African universities are often slower than students expect; build in buffer time.
Request multiple sealed copies if any of your target programs require sealed envelopes (most US grad programs do).
For digital delivery: many programs now accept transcripts sent directly from the registrar via email or services like Parchment / WES.
University of Ghana, KNUST, UCC, and Ashesi all issue transcripts on official letterhead with the academic registrar's stamp. KNUST and Ashesi have streamlined online ordering. For programs requiring WES evaluation, your registrar will mail the sealed transcript directly to WES on your behalf.
Official proof you graduated from your undergraduate program — the degree certificate, sometimes called the diploma. Required by most US grad programs.
Graduate-level standardised tests. The GRE is required by many Master's and PhD programs; the GMAT by most MBA programs. Increasingly waivable since 2022.
